What to Expect
The Brass section adds many different sounds and colors to the band or orchestra. Low brass (trombone and tuba) is the "soul", french horn the mellow harmony, euphonium the depth and contrast, and trumpet the melody.
Our students will master all the techniques necessary to become a great brass musician. On the way, students learn basic music theory, (including how to read music), and musicianship skills. Students will build strong technique through scales and various exercises.
Students are given the opportunity to perform solos in The Music Garden recitals, which typically are held in December and May.
About Private Lessons
The student must have a well-maintained, fully functional instrument on which to practice. They should have the appropriate items on hand to maintain the instrument. Our instructors can advise about the proper care to keep the instrument in good working order. Practice is mandatory for private lessons. Parents must commit to assisting the child with daily practice.
Suggested Daily Practice:
- Ages 6-8: 15-20 min
- Ages 9-13: 30 - 40 min
- Ages 14 and above: 45 - 60 min
The students are invited to participate in two recitals each year: winter (late November or early December)
and spring, (late April or early May).
There is a recital fee of $25 due in November and April.
