What to Expect

Private Piano

Private lessons are offered, but space is limited. After submitting a request for a private lesson, our office will reach out to you to set up a demo with one of our instructors. The student, parent if applicable, and the instructor will meet to make sure that it is a good fit and to discuss the lesson format and best weekly schedule typically, for a child who is beginning between the ages of 5 and 6, we encourage that student to enroll in our Let's Play Music classes. If the child has previous experience at the piano, the parent and teacher will decide if private lessons are a better fit for the child. Students must be committed to daily practice and must be ready for the rigor of private lessons. Placement will be determined during an interview with the student and parent.

Registering for Private Piano Lessons is contingent upon teacher approval and space available. Please use the Request a Private Lesson button to make an inquiry. Online registration is not available for Private Lessons.

About Private Lessons

The student must have a well-tuned, fully functional piano or a high-quality digital keyboard on which to practice. All keys and pedals must be in working order, with an appropriate piano bench on which to sit.

Practice is mandatory for private lessons. Parents of younger students should commit to assisting with daily practice. Good habits will always be encouraged and demonstrated as students progress. It is best to practice in short daily sessions rather than on long session. As students become more advanced, they will see and feel the results of their hard work, practice then often becomes something they love.

Suggested Daily Practice:

  • Ages 6-8: 15-20 min
  • Ages 9-13: 30 - 40 min
  • Ages 14 and above: 45 - 60 min

The students are invited to participate in two recitals each year: winter (late November or early December)
and spring, (late April or early May).
There is a recital fee of $25 due in November and April.

3Do I need to have a piano at home?
Yes. It is ideal if you do have a piano at home, but you can also start with a good quality electronic keyboard. We recommend a keyboard that has regular sized weighted keys with touch sensitive response. We can assist you by making suggestions for purchasing the correct instrument.
4Do you teach adults?
Absolutely! We have a number of adult students at all skill levels
5What if I miss a lesson?
As much advance notice as possible will help us to schedule makeup lessons. Make-ups for missed lessons are at the discretion of the instructor and cannot be guaranteed.
6Can I request a specific instructor?

Yes. When our office contacts you to set up a demo lesson, just let us know if you prefer a particular instructor.
